Samajwadi Shravan Yatra Scheme and List in UP

The state govt. of Uttar Pradesh has launched a pilgrimage tour plan which aims to provide easy pilgrimage trip to the senior citizens of the state. The scheme is being launched under the leadership of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of UP, Shri Akhilesh Yadav. The noble scheme is being launched to provide pilgrimage facilities to those elders and senior citizens who are unable to do them on their own due to financial and other constraints. As the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh are very near, so the ruling Samajwadi Party is keeping no stones unturned to keep things in their favor and get desired results once again. This is a free pilgrimage scheme where senior citizens can enroll for the journeys.

Pilgrimage places covered under the scheme

Under the pilgrimage scheme, several holy shrines all across the country have been selected. The pilgrimage tours will be conducted by trains and buses, sponsored by the Up govt. itself. The very first journey was started on 14th March 2015 which covered the holy shrines of Haridwar and Hrishikesh. In that very year in the month of July, the Ajmer and Pushkar festival journey was conducted under the scheme. In 2016, several pilgrimage journeys for the senior citizens were held at various holy shrines of the country like Tirupati and Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu, Jagganath Temple, and Konark Temple in Odisha, Shirdi in Maharashtra, Dwarka, and Somnath in Gujarat, Golden Temple, and Amritsar in Punjab, etc. At present, the upcoming journey will be held for Ajmer, Rajasthan for the Pushkar festival. It will start on 27th September 2016.

Eligibility criteria of Samajwadi Shravan Yatra

The UP govt. has however set some guidelines regarding the eligibility criteria for joining the pilgrimage scheme. All the applicants must be the domicile of the state of Uttar Pradesh. They must provide proof of residence or a domicile certificate issued by a competent authority. As the pilgrimage scheme by UP Govt. is for the senior citizens only, hence all the applicants must be more than 60 years of age. However, there is no upper age limit for the applicants of the scheme. For joining the pilgrimage journey under the scheme, all the applicants must be medically fit. Hence, it is required to collect certificates of medical fitness from a registered medical officer of a government hospital or reputed private hospital.

Facilities provided under the Samajwadi Shravan Yatra

The entire pilgrimage journey will be provided for free of cost to the registered applicants of the scheme. After the application procedure is over, the beneficiaries will be notified and given details of the upcoming journey and schedule. State Transport buses will pick up the passengers from their nearest bus stops and drop them at Lucknow, the state capital, from where the pilgrimage journey will begin. All types of meals, snacks, drinking water, etc. will be provided to the passengers free of cost, by the tour operators and attendants traveling with them. They will also provide the arrangement for sightseeing and local travel. The scheme will provide comfortable journeys by trains and buses, which will also be free of cost. The accommodation in hotels will also be provided under the scheme free of cost. All the passengers before the start of the journey will receive a free travel kit containing the necessary items needed during the trip. All the passengers will be provided free accidental insurance for travel under the scheme by the Uttar Pradesh govt. This travel insurance will be provided for all the train as well as bus journeys throughout the entire trip. After the end of the trip, the passengers will again be given drop at their respective bus stops nearest to their residences.
