WOMEN SCIENTISTS SCHEME (WOS-A)

The Department of Science and Technology launched the Women Scientists Scheme for women scientists in India. This scheme has been specially designed to provide scope to women scientists to continue their research in the field of science, technology, and engineering.

The objective of the scheme

Under the scheme, the women scientist, up to the age of 50, will be given a launchpad so that they find a reason and motivation to start working in the field of technology and science.

Features of the scheme

The main features of the Women Scientists Scheme are-

  • Under the scheme the scholarship will be given to the women scientists of the following areas- 1. Physical Sciences (which will be refer with Code I)
  1. Chemical Science (to be referred as Code II)
  2. Mathematical Science (to be referred as Code III)
  3. Life sciences (referred as Code IV)
  4. Earth Sciences (Code V)
  5. Atmospheric Sciences (Code VI)
  6. Engineering Sciences (Code VII)
  • The women scientists who want to apply for scholarship under this scheme should submit their proposal with the recognition of an active Research and Development institution or academy.
  • The Department of Science and Technology will provide the women scientists of the country a grant up to Rs.15 lakhs. The grant will be given on the basis of the project proposal submitted by the scientist. Under this grant the travel, small equipment, contingencies and consumables expense of the women scientist will be covered.

Desired candidates under the scheme

The Department of Science and Technology is looking to target the women scientists of the country who had to take a break in their research due to some family pressure or reason. The department would also prefer women scientists who holds a Ph.D. or any equivalent degree or a candidate with MSc or any equivalent degree. Apart from this, preference will be given to candidates with good and attractive academic records and research experience. Experience will be measured in the form of publications, patents, dissertations, etc. that the candidate has.

Eligibility criteria

The Department of Science and Technology has put forward a list of eligibility criteria and only those fulfilling the criteria can apply for the scheme benefits. Here are the criteria-

  • The applicant must have one of the following or equivalent degrees- Post Graduate degree, BTech in Engineering Sciences, MBBS, and MSc in Basic or Applied Sciences
  • The women scientists who are currently employed are not applicable for this scheme and its grants.
  • At the time of submission of the application for this scheme the age of the applicant should not be more than 35 years. In case the applicant belongs to the Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe or an OBC category then a relaxation of five years will be given to the candidates. But then you avail this relaxation the applicant must submit documents that prove their SC/ST/OBC identity.

Applying for the scheme

There is no specific time for applying for the scheme. The scheme is open for application all the time, throughout the year.

For applying for the scheme the candidates should submit five copies of the application in an enclosed format. The format for typing the application letter is available online along with the address for submitting the letter. Along with the letter the applicant much also submit a proposal of their research project will also the required details.

WOMEN SCIENTISTS FELLOWSHIP SCHEME (WOS-B)

The Women Scientists Fellowship Scheme is an initiative by the Department of Science and Technology with aim of encouraging the women scientists of the country who has taken a break from their research due to some family problem or other pressure, to return to the field of science and technology to start their research again.

The objective of the Women Scientists Fellowship Scheme

The main objective of the scheme is to bring the women scientists back to the field of research who has stopped their research due to other personal responsibilities. The Department of Science and Technology was to give an opportunity to such women so that they can re-enter active research.

Features of the scheme

  • Under this scheme the applicants need to develop a project or a proposal which be based on the research, development and adaptation of technology for improving life. The proposal should somewhere relate to the influence of technology in the lives and income of people living in rural and urban areas. The proposal can also be based on the fact that how a technology is adapted and transferred from the laboratory level to the field level.
  • Under the Women Scientists Fellowship Scheme a grant of Rs.15000 will be given per month to the candidate. This will continue for a period of two months. Thus amount will be given to candidates with degree such as Ph.D, MS/MD or M.Tech. Candidates with a postgraduate degree will be given a grant of Rs.10000 per month.
  • The department will also provide grant for travel, contingencies, equipment and consumables in case the proposal needs it.

In this scheme, there are two modes- Internship mode and Project mode. Under the internship mode, the women scientists with no experience will be trained for writing or implementing projects, it is a one-year program. The Project mode is for women with a doctorate or master’s degree and enough experience in the field of research.

Eligibility criteria

In order to apply for the scheme, the candidates need to fulfill certain criteria. Here are the list of criteria to be fulfilled.

  • The women scientists of India who are not currently employed in a permanent job can apply for the scheme if they have certain specific qualification like-
  • A Bachelor or Master degree in technology, engineering, architecture, or medicine
  • D or Master degree in Science
  • The candidate applying should have a break period of minimum three years in their career after they receive their last degree.
  • The candidate should not be the one who has been selected for an award of fellowship during their fellowship period.
  • When applying for the scheme the candidate should not be more than 57 years.
  • A candidate who has a permanent job or fellowship cannot apply for this scheme.

Applying for the scheme

For applying for the scheme the candidate must submit their application form online along with all the required documents attached to it. Apart from online submission the application letter and the documents along with the proposal have to be sent to the coordinator of the scheme.

The required things for applying are-

  • A properly designed project proposal done with complete association with an educational institution or Research and Development academy is to be submitted.
  • The applicant must also submit a certificate which has been given by the associated institution for providing infrastructure or administrative support.

Once a year the invite for applying for this scheme comes, and the desiring candidates should check newspapers and online for the notification.

WOMEN SCIENTIST SCHOLARSHIP (WOS-C)

Women Scientists Scholarship scheme is a step towards providing a platform and encouraging the women scientists of the country to pursue their careers and to gain IPR’s (Intellectual Property Rights).

The objective of the scheme

  • The main objective of the scheme is to retain the women in the industry of science and help them to balance their personal and professional life. The scheme wants to encourage women and grow their position in the field of science.
  • The scheme would try and empower the qualified women of the country in their effort to contribute to the different filed of science including medicine, technology, etc.
  • The effort here is to increase the number of women scientists in the country as well.

Features of the Women Scientist Scholarship scheme

  • The scheme will provide a scholarship of one year with an amount of Rs.12500 in a month. This amount will be given to the candidate with a degree of MSc, BTech, MBBS or BPharma. And candidate with a degree of PhD.,MTech, MVSc., NS, and MD will be given a grant of Rs.17500 in a month.
  • Selection of the deserving candidates will be done by an all-India written exam and a personal interview session which will be implemented by the Patent Facilitating Center of technology information and Forecasting and Assessment Council.
  • Once the candidate is selected for the scheme scholarship, she will be provided a training programme which would include training and internship. During the training period the candidates will be given training in patent searches and in other features of intellectual property rights. This will help them to become self-employed in the future.

Eligibility criteria

The candidates need to fulfill all the following criteria in order to be a part of this scheme.

  • The applicant must have a degree in one of the following- B.E/ B.Tech, M.Tech or MBBS /MS/MD / MVSc/ BPharma / MPharma, chemical sciences or life sciences. Women with higher qualification are also applicable under this scheme.
  • The candidate should be well-versed with computer, database handling, and should be able to prepare repots and write thesis.
  • While applying the age of the candidate should not be more than 50 years.
  • There will be age relaxation of 5 years given to the women belonging to SC/ST/OBC, but proper supporting documents have to be provided to prove your identity.

Applying for the scheme

The format for typing the application letter is given online. You need to make 5 copies of the application letter and submit it along with the required documents to the address available along with the application format.

Under this scheme, preference will be given to married women who have taken a break from their careers due to family responsibilities. There is a screening committee that will select the candidates from the application, and they will have to write an exam which will be conducted on an All-India basis. The candidates who qualify for the exam will be sent for an interview session. After the candidate is selected in the interview round she will be provided with an orientation program for 2 months and a training program for one year in different agencies. You can apply any time, there is no last date for application. The exam is held once a year, so you have to keep looking for notifications online and in newspapers and magazines.

MAULANA AZAD NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME

Maulana Azad National Scholarship scheme encourages girls who belong to the minority sections of the Indian society to continue with their education without any barrier. There are many girls belonging to this section of society who are not able to continue their education due to the lack of financial support. This scheme provides assistance to such girls so that they can complete their education.

The objective of the scheme

The scheme aims on promoting education among girls who belong to National Minorities (i.e. Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, Sikhs) by providing them with financial support. There are many who quit their studies due to lack of money, the scheme looks forward to minimize such situations.

Features of the scheme

The scheme will provide financial assistance to the girls whole belong to National Minorities and are not about to pay for their education. Under this scheme, such girls will be provided with a scholarship that will take care of their school or college fees, book expenses, stationery expenses, and boarding or lodging expenses.

The scholarship will be given to students who have passed class 10 exams only. The whole sum of the scholarship money will not be given at once. The scholarship amount of Rs.12000 will be given in two installments. One after the scholarship is approved and the other after the student has submitted proof of her passing the class 11 exam and of getting admitted to class 12.

This scholarship is a one-time scholarship and one cannot claim to be a permanent beneficiary. The student can avail of the scholarship only once.

How to apply for the scheme?

  • There are free downloadable application forms available on maef.nic.in the candidate needs to download the form and fill it or fill it online. Once filled the application can be submitted online or can be submitted at the office of Foundation. It can also be sent by post.
  • The sanction letter will be sent to the candidate to the mentioned address of the candidate, once the candidate is selected. The application can be submitted to the Maulana Azad Education Foundation within August 31st of each year.

The documents that need to be submitted along with the application form are-

  • The class 10 mark sheet of the candidate that has been attested by the Principal of the school
  • The income certificate copy of the applicants family
  • A document to prove your Religion which also has been attested by the Principal of the applicant’s school
  • Photo of the applicant that has been attested by the Principal of the present school
  • Verification certificate by the Principal of the present school of the applicant

Eligibility criteria

The Foundation has put down certain criteria, fulfilling which the candidates can apply for the scheme. Here are the criteria-

  • This is an exclusive scheme for girls and so only female students can apply for it. The students have to belong to a National Minority group of Muslim, Christians, Buddhists, Sikhs and Parsis.
  • The family income of the candidate should not be more than Rs.100000 in a year. While applying, an income certificate copy is required.
  • Only a student who has secured a minimum of 55% in class 10 exam, conducted by a recognized State or Centre Board, can apply for the scheme.
  • The student must have a confirmed admission in class 11. And the admission should be in a recognized University or College or Institute.
  • The female students who are already being helped by some other scheme, will not be eligiblefor this scheme.
