Swachh Yug Mission

To be very honest, the Swachh Yug mission is one of the most important steps taken up by the central government for India. It cannot be denied at all that India is a country of rivers and seas, and these rivers waters are used for immense daily purposes, especially among the rural areas. This is the reason, the Swachh Yug mission is so important. The project has been set up for the overall cleaning of the Ganga river beds and to make it completely defecation free, so that clean water can be used by the people living in villages for their daily purposes. It can be said to be an extended project, executed under the Swachh Bharat mission. Let us have a look at the key features of this project.

Features of Swachh Yug Mission

  • The primary objective of this mission is to clear all the villages that are established in the bank of river Ganga, completely defecation free. And this mission shall be primarily conducted on the villages that are situated on the banks of the river Ganga. And that includes the five states Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. The purpose is to sanitize the banks of the river Ganga and its adjoining areas, to make it completely defecation free. So that people are able to make the utmost use of the water of Ganga River for their daily purposes.
  • The major focus shall be on the swachhata, which means clearance for the village through the proper Solid and Liquid waste management and also the maintenance of general cleanliness by involving the local bodies, private sector organizations and NGO’s.
  • Apart from the monetary incentives offered by the government within the Swachh Bharat Mission, the government shall also provide extensive interpersonal support and training for the behavior change communication. And this training shall be given to the local trainers through a network of virtual classrooms within the above mentioned 5 states.

How To Implement Swachh Yug Mission

For conducting the initiative forward, a nodal officer has been formatted for every district who will be working mainly for the Swachh Bharat Mission and additionally for the Swachh yug mission. Apart from this, certain relevant government departments shall also be involved for the contribution towards making the initiative successful within all the districts of the mentioned states.

The training and supports sessions shall be conducted by groups and interactive sessions that comprises of field visit training, group discussions, NGO’s, faith based organizations, private sector organizations and also the developmental agencies shall play their respective roles for the execution of this project. The state teams and all these organizations have assured complete support in executing this mission with success.

There will be the presence of nodal officers for every district who primarily will work for the Swachh Bharat Mission but also the Swachh Yug mission shall be taken care by the nodal officers.

The training and support sessions will be done through various mediums and ways, like the group discussions, video conferences, local agencies, and NGO’s shall also take up the responsibility to spread this awareness. The mission is spreading the awareness among people so that open defecation does not take place and clear water can be attained.
