Zero Balance Account through PM Jan Dhan Yojana

Who does not want a bank account in their name?  Go to a remote village and ask a poor man if he has an account and he would answer you that he wishes to have an account but can’t afford to have one and run it.  Well, PM Jan Dhan Yojana facilitates such people who had been wanting to have an account without any fee and opening charges.

Through this prestigious scheme from Prime Minister of India, every individual living in the country can have a Zero Balance Account under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana.  It is unfortunate that a country with a population of more than 125 crores has around 40% of the population without any bank account and that too when India is rapidly making economic progresses in comparison to rest of the world.

With this scheme, the government intends to open atleast one zero balance account for every of 75 million households in India.  A maximum of two members of the family can have a zero balance account under PM Jan Dhan Yojana and could avail the following benefits free of cost:

  • Deposit Money
  • Withdraw Cash
  • Check Balance in their account
  • Transfer funds instantly
  • Avail mobile banking facility
  • Receive Mini statements
  • Get to be financially literate with the help of literacy programs under the scheme.
  • Get a cover of Rs 30,000 for life and an accidental cover of Rs 1 lakh per account.

Along with opening the account with zero balance and above mentioned facilities, the scheme further facilitates needy sections of the society by making them open a saving account even if they do not have sufficient required documents in the form of ‘Small Accounts’.

Any Indian citizen above the age of 10 years is eligible to open a saving account under PM Jan Dhan Yojana.  All he needs to do is walk up to the nearest bank with whatever documents he/she could best afford and consult the bank officials.

Once the account is opened, they would be issued with a RuPay debit card, which they can use for normal transactions, just like a saving account debit card.

The objective of Zero Balance Account through PM Jan Dhan Yojana is to facilitate people to have atleast a bank account wherein they can pool in the daily/monthly saving and avail the benefits and services of banking products.

A nation can only grow inside out when every member of its population is financially secure and stable.  PM Jan Dhan Yojana envisages the same vision and has been working well for a lot of account holders after the scheme was launched.

Last but not the least, even people who are illiterate can get the account opened and use RuPay Debit Cards.  Bank officials would educate illiterate customers about the usage of the account and RuPay Debit card.  For assistance of each account holder, bank officials are supposed to be always at their service.
