Key features of the scheme

  1. Offering security – The aim of the state authority is to provide strong residential units for the needy people, who are associated with the tea industry.
  2. Assistance for building permanent homes – The draft of this welfare project highlights that The West Bengal government will commission the construction of pucca or permanent homes for the tea garden workers.
  3. Number of beneficiaries – The state government is hopeful that around 3 lakh people will gain access to new permanent homes, when the scheme becomes operational.
  4. Numbers of operational tea gardens – Around 370 tea gardens are associated with the tea industry, and offer employment to the inhabitants.
  5. Budget allocated by the state – The state government must shell out a hefty sum to ensure the successful implementation of this scheme. The Finance Minister has ordered the West Bengal Finance Department to set aside Rs. 200 crore, which will be utilized for construction of the concrete residential units.

Eligibility for the applicants

  1. Must be resident of West Bengal – Only those applicants can apply and obtain the perks of this scheme, who are legal residents of West Bengal.
  2. Must work in the tea garden – The scheme will entertain the registration of the tea plantation workers only.
  3. Must not have permanent homes – If the candidate already has a permanent house, then he/she will not be able to partake in this welfare scheme.
  4. Financial background – It has been mentioned in the scheme guidelines that the applicant must fall under the BPL category. Otherwise, the application will not be accepted.

Documents necessary for application

  1. Residential proof – Legal habitation documents, issued by the West Bengal government, must be furnished by the interested applicant. It supports the residential claims.
  2. ID proof – Submitting a copy of the candidate’s Aadhar Card will assist the government officials to carry out the verification checks.
  3. Occupational certificates – The applicant must attach a copy of the registration certificate that has been issued by the Tea Plantation Association in the area.
  4. Official declaration – It is necessary that the applicant obtains an official deceleration from the Gram Panchayat office that states that the person lives in a temporary house.
  5. BPL certificate – As the scheme has been launched for the needy people, the applicant needs to attach a copy of his/her BPL certificate with the enrollment form.
